English health records show changing MS prevalence and survival
UCL · published 2026-03-23 · approved by our editors 9/7/2026
An analysis of English health records found rising recorded MS prevalence and improving survival over time, alongside inequalities linked with deprivation. Researchers suggest better diagnosis and longer survival contribute to the trend. These population findings cannot establish an individual person’s prognosis.
What this means
The analysis used records from 1990–2023. Historical prevalence comparisons and contemporary population estimates are different measures; they should not be combined as a new census count.
